Erin Paruszewski – Creating a Safe Space for Clients, in Both Mind and Body

by | Feb 28, 2022

I am Erin, Founder of Alkalign and a recovering calorie-counting, cardio-obsessed, sugar addict. I started teaching group fitness classes at Equinox back in the early 2000s as a way to earn a few extra bucks and score a free gym membership. Little did I know that side hustle would become my true passion and life’s work, but for none of the reasons you’d think.

After exiting corporate America to explore my entrepreneurial interests, I opened two boutique barre fitness studios in Menlo Park and Los Altos, CA. Within months, I gave birth to my first daughter and honestly, that changed everything. I started seeing the world through her eyes. I started hearing the messages the world was sending through her ears. I started feeling disappointed and disgusted by the messages I was consuming, and even worse by the messages I knew she’d grow up with, especially with a mom in the fitness business. A few years later, we welcomed another daughter to the mix and by this point, the stakes were even higher. Two girls. One scary world.

I had also started doing some deep work on myself to unearth some of my issues with the fitness industry and to understand what did and didn’t work and WHY. I am someone who has always been true to myself. And I knew continuing to contribute to predatory messaging, unsafe exercises and unrealistic expectations was not working for me. Rather than exit the industry altogether, I made a conscious decision to lean in and pivot towards a path that would slowly start to shift the messages and outcomes for my girls, my clients, and myself.

Everyday I swim upstream to change the macro environment in micro ways. I founded Alkalign with one purpose in mind, to create a safe space for my clients, in both mind and body. I hope that the beloved Blue Crew appreciates the level of detail that goes into ensuring their physical safety via a practice of intentional movement and joint health exercises. I hope they feel the difference in the supportive and shame-free environment we’ve created at Alkalign. For more more, read my transformational memoir called It Doesn’t Have to Hurt to Work™.😉

It Doesn't Have to Hurt to Work

A NEW, 2-week FREE program we are offering to any and all who want to get off the hamster wheel and try something that 1) works and 2) you will enjoy in the process. No more beating yourself up and spiraling the shame drain thinking you have to do more and be more. We embrace a philosophy that it doesn’t have to hurt to work. The extremes aren’t sustainable. Be kind to yourself. Be kind to your body. Slow, steady and sane wins the race of life. And we are here to help you along the way.

Hi! I’m Erin and my passion in life is helping others feel better by helping them get out of their own head. So much of our relationship to food and fitness is a reflection of deeply rooted beliefs that were imprinted on us at a very early age. These beliefs drive all sorts of behaviors, many of which are not good for our physical or mental health. I know this first-hand. As a former calorie-counting cardio queen I played right into all the toxic messages about what it meant to be “healthy”. That all changed when I hit rock bottom. Since leaving my corporate career in 2009 I have been fully committed to shifting the narrative and helping people experience better physical health by unpacking unhealthy beliefs. My biggest inspiration are my two young daughters, who I hope to raise in a household that openly illuminates and addresses the misinformation instead of adopting it.
