5 Things I Wish My Friends and Family Knew About My Life’s Work

by | Apr 18, 2024

Sometimes the closer you are to people, the less they know about what you do for a living. Unlike a colleague who knows you in the context of a job or career expertise, most of my friends and family know me as a mom, neighbor, sibling or friend. I can say the same for my friends and family. Although I know who is in marketing, nursing, real estate, business development, banking or sales, do I really know what they do best? Nope. This is why I feel inspired to share what I’m all about and what I do best so that, as my friend, you can reach out to me for support — just like I’d like to reach out when I have a question related to your field.

5) I have dedicated my life and my career to helping people feel better. This is inspired by my own experience of feeling like crap for many years. Gut issues, aches, pains, injuries. My teens and 20s were kind of miserable. It wasn’t until I started changing the way I ate and exercised that I began to heal. I founded Alkalign because I wanted to help others as well, especially my friends and family so they are healthy enough to play pickleball and travel with me as we get older.

4)  I am 100% immersed in the world of holistic health, functional nutrition, hormone health and pre-habilitative and rehabilitative fitness. It is both my profession and my passion. I consume as much information as I possibly can through classes, courses, books, podcasts…but I think my most valuable experience has come from working with thousands of people over the past 20 years of teaching and coaching. I watch, listen and learn from every interaction. I identify patterns and create solutions that meet people where they are, and build a logical plan to get them where they want to go. As a result, I have helped many clients reduce physical symptoms like back pain, knee pain and hip pain, as well as recover from surgeries and injuries with grace.

3) I am mission and values driven. My mission in life is to disrupt toxic fitness culture, which preys on people’s insecurities in order to sell them the latest and greatest thing. People want instant gratification with minimal effort, and diet- and fitness-fad marketing will lead you to believe it’s possible. However, when it comes to safe, sustainable results, there are no shortcuts. My programs are dedicated to educating, empowering and inspiring people to feel their best by investing in self-care. It’s not only important that what we offer is effective, it also has to be safe and sustainable. If it’s not safe or doesn’t feel right, I won’t teach or recommend it. Much to Tony’s chagrin, I will not sell out to make a buck.

2) My superpower is seeing injuries before they occur. I can tell by the way someone stands, walks, runs, lunges or squats what type of issues they will have later in life. This is a blessing for those who are prevention based and want to know. This is a nightmare for all the people I observe in the wild and cannot help. It’s also hard when it comes to my friends and family. I hear all the complaints about this and that hurting and I know I can help, but I won’t make suggestions unless asked, as I don’t want to come across as pushy or a know-it-all.

1) The best feedback I’ve received are those that speak to people’s improved relationships with themselves and their health. Thanks to the aforementioned toxic fitness culture, many people have a really messed up sense of self. Expectations are set so high (thanks filtered instagram pages and perfect influencer lifestyles) that we constantly feel less than. For many, it has turned them away from exercise or other forms of self-care and self-love altogether.

I love when someone says:

“I can finally look in the mirror and not hate myself.”

“I never liked exercise until I found Alkalign.”

“I feel strong, safe, supported and seen.”

This is what keeps me going and what keeps me fighting for Alkalign even though I often feel like I’m swimming upstream against all the companies and brands that have giant marketing budgets dedicated to selling the flashy quick fix. I want to help as many people as I can and I hope that more people will take advantage of what Alkalign has to offer while we are still offering it.

Hi! I’m Erin and my passion in life is helping others feel better by helping them get out of their own head. So much of our relationship to food and fitness is a reflection of deeply rooted beliefs that were imprinted on us at a very early age. These beliefs drive all sorts of behaviors, many of which are not good for our physical or mental health. I know this first-hand. As a former calorie-counting cardio queen I played right into all the toxic messages about what it meant to be “healthy”. That all changed when I hit rock bottom. Since leaving my corporate career in 2009 I have been fully committed to shifting the narrative and helping people experience better physical health by unpacking unhealthy beliefs. My biggest inspiration are my two young daughters, who I hope to raise in a household that openly illuminates and addresses the misinformation instead of adopting it.
